406. nothin’ but foam

Tonya Russ Price, Charlotte, North Carolina.

I’m sure there is some caffeine in there, but until then, that sure is some pretty foam.

Tonya is a wedding photographer (but not your ordinary wedding photographer, not by a long shot)  with two blogs, Poprock Photography (weddings)  and Biscuit Fan Club (food).

405. must drink coffee

Tonya Russ Price, Charlotte, NC.

Tonya sent me this cup on Saturday with a note: “What’s wrong with me? I have a wedding to shoot today, and I stayed out till 1am watching the Hackensaw Boys (boys with everything strings and some tin cans) paying for it this morning. In robot voice, “must drink coffee.”

At least Tonya has an excuse. I stayed in and went to bed early on Friday and the robot “must drink coffee” voice was still loud and clear (and so insistent).

404. a week ago sunday

Last weekend we sat in the patio, brushing Toby, grilling vegies and drinking iced coffee. I think it was Mother’s Day. That was a long time and many cups ago. We lost Toby on Monday night, and we’ve been missing him terribly. Even the trauma he caused to our yard. This weekend it rained and hailed….it was kind of exciting and actually a nice change. We watched the weather show, put on a fresh pot, and remembered our boy. And then we grilled vegies in the rain.

403. a hail of a cup

Sunday morning hail storm and a cup of coffee. I was in my pajamas and barefoot, but still managed to get the photo. Quickly.

402. morning in kolkata

Sean Kline from Berkeley CA, in Kolkata, India.  Morning at the hotel.

My friend Sean is the executive director of  Reach Global. Reach works with adolescent girls and their mothers, who have formed self-help and savings groups to provide education, delivered in a way that is immediately actionable and sharable. It’s knowledge that enables the girls and women to activate their most powerful asset…themselves.

400. kolkata coffee

Sean Kline from Berkeley CA. Street vendor in Kolkata.

I have been waiting for these photos for about 399 cups. I had the honor of visiting India with Sean several years ago, as part of our work for Freedom from Hunger and Reach India. Sean is back there again, in his role as Executive Director for Reach Global.

Reach Global works with adolescent girls and their mothers, who have formed self-help and savings groups, and provides education. It’s very tangible, useful education, delivered in a way that is immediately actionable and sharable. It’s knowledge that enables the girls and women to activate their most powerful asset…themselves. My time meeting with the groups of women, and the NGOs who serve them, seeing and feeling their challenges, and also their energy and determination to create better lives for themselves and their families, provided some of the most profound moments of my own life.  I’m proud to continue our work with Reach, and with Sean.

And that coffee…wow, that’s India in a cup.

399. the street view

Reina, Davis CA (Mishka’s Cafe).

Reina and I met for coffee a few weeks ago. We took our lattes outside to the sidewalk and both pulled out our cameras before we sat down. These are mine. But hers….they always inspire me. That’s why she’s the Goddess of the Macro.

Reina is a UC Davis grad student. Her (inspiring) Flickr page is here.

398. same coffee, different view

Reina, Davis CA (at Mishka’s Cafe).

A few weeks ago I met Reina, one of our most prolific contributors for coffee, here in town. We met through Flickr, and I have always been inspired by her images. We travel the same path, and I see common subjects, but her photos are just always a little more intimate and provide a little more wonder. Mine are here.
