559. broken egg cafe

Ken Newton, Nevada City, CA. Taken in Mandeville, Louisiana.

“Deep in the bayou country of southern Louisiana, on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, lies the very old town of Mandeville.  The Broken Egg Café is in the heart of town and close by the Tammany Trace, an amazingly scenic bike path that winds through swamp and marsh along the contours of the lake, overhanging oaks creating a tunnel of shade to escape the Louisiana heat.  The café is a very welcome place to have brunch and, of course, to enjoy the house specialty, Community Coffee Columbian Dark Roast, while surrounded by the beautiful banana fronds and flowers.”

558. afternoon at cafe du monde

Ken Newton, Nevada City, CA. Taken in New Orleans.

The Café du Monde in the French Quarter of New Orleans is synonymous with late evening and early, early morning, savoring the flavors of the city while enjoying the aroma and taste of that unique blend of rich coffee and chicory.  But it also true that beignets and café au lait are wonderful in mid-afternoon which is where I found myself during a summer thunderstorm.”
