239. table rent

Kathleen Fitzgerald, Eugene, OR.

As long as it is coffee, that is good enough. The cup in front is table rent. I get whichever is the strongest blend from the thermos bottles lined up at the back of the bakery and they have organic half and half. My friend Bonnie gets tea and enough toast to share. I always say no to the toast but she gets extra butter and jam so I eat half of one piece and sometimes forget and eat more.  Good bread at the Hidaway Bakery. Anyway, Bonnie writes (Oregon Quarterly Features and Books by Bonnie Henderson). We have been meeting for coffee for over 10 years.”

Kathleen and I haven’t met in real life, but we are connected through our children…and we have a coffee date in May. By the way, she is isn’t being truthful about any coffee being good enough. I know she’s particular, and grinds her own beans every morning…by hand. And she sent me some of her favorite beans, from Wandering Goat Cafe. Clearly she knows how to be a good friend!
